Addi's Story:
My daughter, Addi, started having symptoms 2 days after Thanksgiving. She continued getting more and more sick. She has always struggled with illness but has been the happiest sick child I've ever encountered... but not with this. She was miserable. When she got more symptoms along with the continued high fever, we headed to our children's hospital (our Pediatrician had suspected Kawasaki but she hadn't shown enough symptoms yet and with previous medical trauma, we were waiting on labs until she had more reason to check, IE: more symptoms). We were admitted in the middle of the night and got a confirmed diagnoses the following morning. She wasn't discharged until 6 days later. She lost so much weight, was uncomfortable 24/7, and was so weak she couldn't walk. She had a sedated echocardiogram and thankfully did not have heart involvement (as of now). She was given one round of IVIG and was on a high dose of aspirin. After being released we were home for a few days before returning for her second echo (still clear). She had an awful reaction to the anesthesia and felt miserable yet again, right when we thought she was improving the most. I stayed home with her for 95% of the time she was on aspirin (8 weeks) to give her time to heal and avoid any sickness. Fast forward to now, she has joint pain and irritability as long term side effects, along with medical trauma/ptsd. We see a Chiropractor regularly to help with the joint pain. We are in a behavioral health program to help her with the trauma and it seems to be helping!
She is a brilliant girl and so so funny. Kawasaki disease did a number on her but she made it through and we are thankful for the doctors, nurses and other support through the whole process.
Current Condition:
Much better! Still has joint pain and irritability but as of now, no heart involvement.
