Corey's Story:

In December of 2023, at age 2, Corey got sick the day after Thanksgiving; high fevers, lethargic and didn't want to walk. After 12 days full of visits to the pediatrician, assumptions of a virus then pneumonia, and then a collapsed lung, Corey was admitted to the children's hospital in Greenville, SC and received the Kawasaki diagnosis.
Unfortunately, Corey suffered a cardiac event while in the hospital and was airlifted to the PICU at MUSC in Charleston where he received care for the next week.  Unfortunately, Corey suffered damage to his heart, namely a giant aneurysm in his coronary artery that persists today.
Our family recently relocated to Philadelphia to benefit from the amazing expertise and care provided by Dr. Elias and the cardiac team at CHOP. Corey continues to be closely monitored and takes a variety of medication, but he is thriving despite the odds! He is a happy and energetic little boy.

Current Condition:

Our family is forever grateful for the care and support provided to us by pediatrician Dr. John Yelton and cardiologist Dr. Susan Haynes in Greenville, for the lifesaving "heads up" about Kawasaki Disease from Corey's uncle Dr. Noah Diminick, for our new team here at CHOP led by Dr. Matthew Elias, and the continued prayers from our expansive village! We cherish every day with our miraculous little boy and his brave big brother! And look forward to working with Kawasaki Kids to bring more awareness to the disease here in Philadelphia!
